we'll look at the list of where the soldiers are, israel is not listed. wait a minute, what is going on here? it becomes very opaque. it is very hard to get good numbers. host: let's show some of the statistics from the defense department on u.s. military personnel deployment. the united states and its territories have the most at 1.2 million and afghanistan has 66,000 troops to. about germany and japan. why do we need 53,000 troops in germany and 39,000 troops in japan? guest: we don't, they should be brought home. host: is their mission there now? guest: their mission is left over from the cold war. there were trips that were placed there to prevent a soviet attack on eastern europe. there is no more soviet union. there is no more cold war. we don't face the kind of threat. in japan, we are being told that they are there to prevent north korea from attacking. there is also about 30,000 troops in south korea. why do we need all those troops in japan? i think we will be hearing a lot about troops in japan because we will be hearing from president obama ab

we have growing concerns about the escalating violence in israel and in the gaza strip. the president has stated that he has spoken with prime minister netanyahu and it expressed what we all believe that israel has the right to defend itself as a nation. we are also concerned about any civilian deaths. be more of those that -- we mourn those that and we want hamas not to put people in harm's way so we can avoid the loss of civilian life. we will continue to monitor that situation. last week, we had an election. the american people spoke clearly and that is for us to reach an agreement to grow jobs, grow our economy, and reduce our deficit. now we have an opportunity. this is opportunity time for us and the american people to demonstrate to all americans that we are here to get the job done. that starts with the effort to ensure economic security for the middle-class, restore certainty for our small businesses, and spur growth for our economy as we reduce the deficit. tomorrow, as the bipartisan congress comes to the table at the white house, we must act in a responsible

because israel -- israel is -- that's god's chosen land. the jews are god's chosen people. host: ok, connie, let's give fred barnes a chance to comment. guest: well, i mean that was an issue between romney who was much more pro israel though publicly in particular. we'll see how that turns out. i personally don't begrudge him a vacation after the campaign, like to take one myself. but there was another part -- oh, yeah. what she said in the beginning about the republican party. is it really in deep trouble? i don't think so. obviously hispanics are a problem. younger senators and governors, they have 30 governors who are extremely important, 30 out of 50. like bob mcdonald in virginia and bobby jindal and scott walker in wisconsin and so on. republicans actually -- romney actually won i believe the middle class. if you have the middle class as people who make between $50,000 a year and $100,000 a year, romney won that group narrowly. the middle class is up for grabs but romney did well enough there but just not well enough to win. host: on the question of what the republica
